Alexander Macijauskas. LITHUANIAN RURAL MARKETS

Sud. G. Česonis, designer T. Mrazauskas, released kaunas photography gallery, 2018.

"Macijauskas is able to show the chaos of the figures raging in the market in such a way that the order underneath it is in order, so that the world of difficult-to-identify small relationships can be an irregular geometry – as the opposite of the geometry of the correct structures of the mind. He approaches the limit to gaze at uncivilized nature, but instead of being scared, he laughs — not only from those unscathed villagers, but from death and self. Maybe here is the answer, how ordinary Lithuanian markets have attracted western photography specialists? Their simple, exotic patterns of untapped reality begin and group together into characters of existence that are like pearls flashing in the mud. And all this sounds not like a sermon that is fed up with listening back to childhood, but as a joke, a laughter that rises from the laxatives of sadness: the fragility of such an ugly and therefore beloved being."
