"Off-season" is Algimantas Maldutis' 1983 the title of the diptych created by him, which is perfect for this album as well: it describes not only the feeling evoked by almost all the artist 's photographs, but also, in a sense, the author' s destiny and the era in which he created. Successfully debuted in 1982. A. Maldutis took a relatively active part in the photographic life of the country throughout the 1990s: he organized several solo exhibitions, his works were included in group exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad, he won awards, but in the long run he and his works sank deeper and deeper. into oblivion. This book - the first publication of the photographer only testifies that the artist, like most of the young people of that time, did not have the opportunity to present himself properly during the most mature period of his work - the Soviet era was not the best time to think differently. The "off-season" at that time was not only in the cultural, but also in the political and social life - in everything there seemed to be some vague, unnamed anticipation and anxiety.
