In the book, archaeologist E. Vasiliauskas presents the history of the villages of Daunorva manor and the smaller estates – The Minor Daunorva Manor, Bertučiai and Satkūnas palivarks – on the basis of information provided by written, cartographic sources in Šiauliai. The valda has repeatedly replaced the owners – starting with Michael Mashkov, in the middle of the 17th century went to noble German families (barons von Tranckwitz, von Plettenberg, von der Brüggens, von Manteuffeliams gen. Szoege, von Pfeilitzeras gen. Franckams and finally countess keyserlingk). In the mid-17th and early 20th centuries, information is provided on the homesteads, buildings of these manors, and reflections of economic, cultural and everyday life are examined. It also provides an overview of the large Latvian evangelical Lutheran diaspora – dundurnieks – named after the Latvian manor name Dundurmuiža until the end of the 18th century.
