In the bilingual publication, film historians Lina Kaminskaitė-Jančorienė and Elena Jasiūnaitė discuss the broader historical context of the development of Lithuanian documentary cinema and reveal the circumstances of filmmaking. Excerpts from conversations with directors offer a closer acquaintance with filmmakers.
The documentary films of Robertas Verba, Henrikas Šablevičius, Almantas Grikevičius, Viktoras Starošius, Edmundas Zubavičius, Audrius Stonis, Arūnas Matelis, Algimantas Maceina, Kornelijus and Diana Matuzevičius were digitized and restored on the initiative's DVD collection Meno Avilis. In order to present Lithuanian documentaries in more detail, in cooperation with Anthology Film Archives and Moskwood Media, the collection also includes films by Jonas Mekas and Šarūnas Bartas, in cooperation with the project partner LRT - the film “Reflections” by H. Šablevičius.
The Lithuanian Documentary Film Anthology is the first project in the Baltic States based on modern film heritage preservation practices: film restoration, preservation and distribution.
