As the book's maker Stanislovas Žvirgždas writes in the foreword to the publication, chosen to review the 20th century because, first of all, "the photography of our land in the 19th century is quite well-lit in publications for this period. The dramatic period of Lithuanian history in the 20th century: national revival, two world wars, even several occupations, won, lost and restored independence laid a stamp and photography. Over the course of a century, photography has changed radically, the artistic direction has begun, and the first photographers' organisations that have been heavily influenced by the development of artistic photography have been established."
This publication, together with the recent monograph "Nihil obstat: Lithuanian photography during the Soviet era" and Aimon Narušytė's "Lithuanian photography: 1990-2010" monograph, which appeared, is of particular importance to the history of Lithuanian photography and becomes not only an opportunity to know the creation of different Lithuanian authors, but also to get an overall picture of who and what it is about Lithuanian photography.
