Sigismund Šalkauskas LATVIJA, ALUS DARĪTAVAS, ETIĶETES, PALIKTŅI

Almost 1200 illustrations were presented in the book "Latvia, breweries, labels, coasters in the 19th century–1946".
The author of the book has been collecting everything related to industrial beer production for many years: labels, bottles, banners and posters. Having decided to shape the collection not on the principle of quantity, but on the principle of quality, the collector confined himself to the territory of the former Tsarist Empire, in the period before the early post-war period. The labels of breweries operating in the territory of Latvia are significantly higher than in Lithuania. Data collected from all sources found and accessible for officially operating breweries in the territory of Latvia until 1946 shall be provided. It is rare to imagine that in the present 19th century – 1946 there were more than 350 breweries that were officially registered, paid taxes, had their own labels.
For those who do not understand Latvian, – a glossary of all the inscriptions on the labels. So anyone who takes the book will be able to understand what the Latvian beer name "iemet papin" means, the words "kick off" or "tvaika daritava".
All texts of the book in Latvian, Lithuanian, English and Russian.
