Jonas Kalvelis (1925-1987) deservedly called the poet of natural fragments, the virtuoso of Lithuanian nature.
In 1965, he participated for the first time in the photo exhibition "Our nature", shortly thereafter invited to the then Kaunas Photo Club. Since 1970 Member of the Lithuanian Union of Photoartists, in 1976 he was awarded the honorary title of International Artistic Photography. J.Kalvelis's photo series "Forest" (1968–1984) and "Dunes" (1973–1985) earned international recognition. Organized personal exhibitions in Vilnius, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Riga, Leningrad, Moscow, Berlin. J. Kalvelis's work was presented in Lithuanian and foreign encyclopedias, biographical dictionaries, etc.

Sud. S. Žvirgždas, designer R. Glinskytė, published the Lithuanian Photoartists' Union Photography Foundation, in 2010.
In monograph, in addition to photographs from the cycles "Forest" and "Kopos", the article "Poet of The Fragments of Nature", the text "Looking into silence" by Neim Prankinks and the insights of more than ten Lithuanian and foreign critics about the creation of J. Kalvelis are published alongside photographs from the cycles "Forest" and "Dune".
