Joseph Čechavičius is one of the most famous vilnius photographers of the second half of the 19th century, author of artistic panoramas of the city and impressive landscapes of its surroundings. The photographs of J. Čechavičius in the city clearly surpassed the works of the first Vilnius photographers Abdonas Korzon, Alberto Healthyvsky, Vilhelm Zacharčik with their artistry.
Among the vilnists J. Čechavičius was famous as a photographer of images of Vilnius, but in the portrait photos of his atelier, famous contemporaries were also immortalized.
In the book "Joseph Čechavičius (1818-1888). The creative legacy of J. Čechavičius, published in photography, is a unique and extremely valuable visual document of Vilnius history from the 1970s and 1990s.
